HISTORY

  • Dream it (2012)

It all begins with an idea. Indonesian muslim community in Houston has always used the musholla in Indonesian Consulate in Houston to hold their study circle. Eventually they wanted a space of their own to socialize, worship, and at the same time introduce Indonesian Muslim culture to the American public. Hence on February 11, 2012, Indonesian American Muslim Community (IAMC) was formed and its job was to collect the funds to build the first Indonesian masjid in Texas and to manage it.

  • Buy It (2015)

After searching for an ideal spot for the masjid, IAMC finally bought a piece of property with a house and a modest church in February 2015. The church was then converted into a temporary masjid and the house was renovated to become a community center and a house for the caretaker.

  • Grow It (2015-present).

Once the renovation to build the temporary masjid and the community center was finished, the community started to build outdoor dining area, a basketball court, a side parking lot and a children playground in the property along with some landscaping work. At this stage, while many community activities were successfully held in the campus, the parking space was still sorely lacking and the temporary masjid (an old building in itself) was always in need of repair.

  • Build It (2021 - present)

After obtaining the permission from the local county in 2018, the community started to build the water drainage, retention pond, and front parking lot, which is finished mid 2021. With the completion of the parking lot and water drainage/retention project, the community will focus on collecting funds to build the permanent masjid. The phase I of masjid building, which is the foundation work is slated to start the end of 2022.
