About Indonesian American Muslim Society (IAMC)

The Greater Houston area is home to many Muslims, including Indonesian Muslims, who wanted to establish a community centre as a place to come together for religious, social, cultural events, and positive moral guidance. IAMC is a religious non-profit institution in charge of managing and operating Masjid Istiqlal-Houston. We established in 2012 in the state of Texas and since 2016, our status is exempt from the Federal Income tax under section 510(c)(3) of Internal Revenue code.

Our Visions and Mission

Our History

  • The Dream (2012)

It all begins with an idea. The Indonesian Muslim community in Houston has always used the musholla in the Indonesian Consulate to hold their study circle. Eventually, we wanted a space of our own to socialize, worship, and introduce Indonesian Muslim culture to the community. On February 11, 2012, the Indonesian American Muslim Community (IAMC) was formed and proceeded to collect the funds to build and manage the first Indonesian masjid in Texas.

  • The Fruition (2015)

After searching for an ideal spot for the masjid, IAMC finally bought property which had a house and modest church in February 2015. With joint effort from the community, the church was converted into a masjid and the home was renovated to become a community center as well as a house for the masjid's caretaker. This great achievement was able to be reached with the help of Allah Almighty.

  • The Growth (2015 - Present)

Once the renovation to build the temporary masjid and the community center finished, the community started to build the rest of the masjid, including an outdoor dining area, a basketball court, a side parking lot, and a children's playground. At this stage, many community activities were successfully held in the campus, but many renovations were still needed. With permission from the local county in 2018, the community started on more projects such as parking lot expansion. This is just the tip of the iceberg, with renovations continuing to happen thanks to our sustainers.
